Our Story
Our story at Holden Plant Rentals is one of growth, dedication, and a commitment to exceptional service. With a fleet of over 4,000 vehicles in service with semi-state bodies, local authorities, and government bodies across Ireland, we have become the country’s largest fleet management and vehicle rental operator. Our headquarters are in Mullinavat, County Kilkenny, and we’re proud to hold fleet rental and maintenance contracts with some of Ireland's leading organisations—from Cork City Council to Dublin Airport Authority, RTÉ to the Road Safety Authority, and from Transport Infrastructure Ireland to Irish Water. The growth and success of Holden Plant Rentals has come from our unwavering dedication to high service standards, our customers, and our ability to adapt to a continually changing environment. As part of our commitment to quality, we’re accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BSOHAS 18001, ISO 50001, and ISO 55001 standards. Our team of over 70 skilled and experienced personnel brings deep knowledge and enthusiasm to managing a vast fleet for a range of customers, including major government bodies and local authorities. We source our plant and vehicles directly from manufacturers, and all warranty and modifications are handled in-house. A landmark moment for us came in late 2013 when we secured an exclusive contract to supply and maintain Cork City Council’s new fleet of over 250 vehicles. This multi-million Euro contract has been a huge success for both parties, and we’ve continued to strengthen our relationship with Cork Council, recently supplying over 40 new VW light commercial vehicles. In January last year, RTÉ appointed us as their national fleet manager, responsible for over 200 vehicles. This contract covers fleet management, maintenance, procurement, and disposal for RTÉ’s diverse range of vehicles, including motorcycles, 4x4s, and outside broadcast units. One standout project was building the RTÉ Radio 1 Road Caster in-house, working closely with RTÉ studio design teams to meet their exact specifications. We’re also thrilled to have been chosen by LOETB to supply and maintain equipment for the National Construction Training Centre at Mount Lucas, a contract covering a full range of construction sector machinery, from tower cranes to excavators. Additionally, Shannon Airport Authority selected us to manage their entire fleet’s supply, maintenance, and disposal. One of our newer clients is Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), which selected us to manage their fleet across Ireland’s prestigious racetracks, including Leopardstown and Fairyhouse. We recently delivered 14 Massey Ferguson and John Deere tractors to the Curragh, along with a range of grass management equipment. The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) are among our long-standing partners. For RSA, we manage a comprehensive fleet, including enforcement vans, training rigs, and coaches. At Dublin Airport, we maintain their road and runway sweepers and metal recovery vehicles. Our customer base includes Inland Fisheries Ireland, Limerick City & County Council, Dublin Fire Brigade, and more. We’re also thrilled to manage Inland Fisheries Ireland’s fleet of patrol boats nationwide, and to serve as the sole fleet manager for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). Our operations are spread across strategic locations in Kilkenny, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, and Dublin, with mobile service engineers providing nationwide coverage. All vehicles and equipment are commissioned through our main depot in Mullinavat, ensuring a seamless experience for our clients. Holden Plant Rentals began in 1955, founded by Patrick Holden as a business focused on car and agricultural machinery sales and repairs. We expanded over the years, evolving into a major provider of municipal equipment rental by 1989. Today, we’re Ireland’s largest supplier of road sweeping equipment, offering everything from factory floor scrubbers to airport runway cleaners. Our mission has always been to exceed customer expectations through top-quality service and support. This dedication has earned us a high rate of repeat business and new contracts. Working alongside my sisters, Ellmarie and Vicky, and with the invaluable support of our long-standing team members Lisa Ryan and Mark Byrne, we’re now focused on growing the fleet management side of the business. As we look to the future, we know that UK and international competition in our sector is fierce. But by maintaining quality, delivering outstanding service, and adapting to challenges like Brexit, we’re confident we can continue to grow and make a lasting impact in the fleet management and rental industry.
