TRAINING
LOETB had been consulting closely with stakeholders in the construction sector prior to awarding contract to Holden Plant Rentals, including the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), to ensure that new training programme responded to the needs of the industry and were linked to current and future employment opportunities. The new partnership with Holden Plant Rentals, CIF and its members, City & Guilds, and the Department of Social Protection has developed a Construction Traineeship that commenced in September. This initiative seeks to fill a recognised gap within the construction industry i.e. shortages in the availability of semi-skilled trades and it does not affect, in any way, existing or planned apprenticeships. It is proposing not only to respond to the skills shortage in certain disciplines, but also afford training and qualification in skills that were heretofore obtained by on the job experience with no formal training or instruction.
